The Advocate for Children and Youth Amendment Act

Full Title:
The Advocate for Children and Youth Amendment Act

The Advocate for Children and Youth Act is amended. The preamble is expanded to acknowledge that children and youth of all gender identities deserve services that respect their dignity and support them in living fully and authentically; and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples can provide guidance in designing and delivering services for children and youth. The Advocate may enter into agreements with government bodies or other entities who provide designated services as set out in the Act to facilitate the Advocate in carrying out their responsibilities. The Advocate may also advocate for the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Act must be reviewed every seven years.
