The city council unanimously adopted a declaration for the Montreal Day of Commemoration and Action Against Violence Against Women and Girls.
The City invites the public to gather on December 6 in memory of the 14 women murdered during the anti-feminist attack at Polytechnique and to participate in the activities of the 12 Days of Action, from November 25 to December 6. It condemns violence against women and girls and commits to continuing its prevention efforts, supporting the SPVM and community groups that advocate for their rights.
The declaration applies to the entire territory of Montreal. It also emphasizes the importance of paying special attention to youth, Indigenous and racialized women, seniors, LGBTQ2IA+ individuals, women with disabilities, and those experiencing homelessness.
Montrealers are invited to participate in the gathering on December 6 and the activities organized during the 12 Days of Action. The declaration states that the City will continue its work against violence and femicides. It does not create new obligations for the public.
