Health Share Transparency Act

Summary#

The bill would require health care sharing ministries to report information each year about their finances, enrollment, claims, providers, and reimbursement times. The Department of Health and Human Services would publish the information online. Ministries would also have to give current and prospective members clear information about claim appeals, exclusions, costs, and the fact that reimbursements are not guaranteed. Companies paid to enroll members would have to explain available public health coverage options and compare their protections with the ministry’s offerings. The Federal Trade Commission would publish complaint information twice a year. The bill allows civil penalties of up to $100 per day for each affected individual when a ministry fails to meet the requirements.
