Housing Market Transparency Act

Summary#

The bill would require the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to collect information about properties that receive low-income housing tax credits. State agencies would send data to HUD within 18 months after a property begins operating and every year after that. HUD would set data standards, help states submit information, and work to reduce duplicate reporting. At least once a year, HUD would publish the collected data, except for development cost data, and periodically report on these properties and the broader multifamily housing market.

What it means for you#

The bill would make information about low-income housing tax credit properties available to the public. The information would include ownership, inspections, habitability, and the end dates of affordable-use rules. The bill does not describe how this information would affect individual residents.
