National Fire Academy Reporting Act

Summary#

This bill amends the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 to require the Administrator of the National Fire Academy to send an annual report to Congress. The report is due each year by November 30, starting the first full year after the bill becomes law. The report must cover the previous fiscal year and include: the total number of fire departments with personnel who attended Academy courses (identifying those departments and the States they are in); the total number of fire department personnel who attended, broken down by career or volunteer status; the total number of courses and programs offered; the total number of courses and programs cancelled; the total funds awarded under subsection (f) disaggregated to State and local fire service training programs; and the total funds awarded under subsection (i) to students who attended Academy courses or programs.

What it means for you#

  • The National Fire Academy must collect and report detailed information each year about its courses and programs.
  • Congress will receive annual data on which fire departments and States participated, how many personnel attended, whether attendees were career or volunteer firefighters, and counts of offered and cancelled courses.
  • The report will also show amounts awarded for State and local training programs and amounts awarded to students under the specified subsections.
