Save Our Seniors Act

Full Title:
SOS Act

Summary#

The Save Our Seniors Act would change a reporting rule in the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974. It directs the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to add a new comparison, shown as a graph, to its report on the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund and the Disability Insurance Trust Fund. The graph must compare (A) the amount assumed under section 257(b)(1) of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 and (B) outlays from payments from those Trust Funds based on the assumption that payments would be consistent with the amounts payable from dedicated funding sources under current law.

What it means for you#

The bill changes what information the CBO must give Congress about the Social Security trust funds. It does not change benefit rules or payment amounts in the text of the bill. If enacted, Congress would receive a new graph comparing the specified assumed amount and outlays under current law.
