Endorsement Transparency Act

Summary#

This bill would change the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 by adding a new section (Section 106). The new rule would say that a labor organization may not endorse a candidate for President of the United States unless the organization polls its members about that endorsement and then tells members the poll results. The requirement would take effect 12 months after the bill becomes law.

  • If you are a member of a labor organization: your union would need to poll members about any presidential endorsement and share the poll results with members.
  • If you are union leadership: you must conduct a member poll before making a presidential endorsement and disclose the results to members.
  • If you are a presidential candidate or a non-member: No publicly available information on direct effects in the bill text.
