Bike the Border Act

Summary#

This bill directs the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to take actions, within one year of enactment, to effectively and quickly facilitate non-motorized crossings (including bicycles and pedestrians) across the Gordie Howe International Bridge. It also requires the Comptroller General (GAO) to submit a report within 18 months that reviews CBP’s progress, says whether CBP has facilitated these crossings, and offers recommendations for further steps and possible incentives.

What it means for you#

If enacted, CBP must act to make bicycle and pedestrian crossings at the Gordie Howe International Bridge easier and faster. The GAO report is meant to check CBP’s work and suggest additional actions. The bill does not itself create new crossing rules; it directs CBP to take steps and requires a review.
