Veteran Technology Employment Success Act

Summary#

This bill changes how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) calculates and shares the employment rate for veterans who complete the VET TEC high-technology training program. It requires the VA to make the employment rate available to the public and to Congress. The employment rate must be the share of program completers who are employed 180 days after finishing the program. The rate must exclude cases where the graduate is employed by the same organization that ran the training or by a parent or affiliate of that organization as an instructor in a similar program. The VA must, to the maximum extent practicable, also report rates for full-time, part-time, and self-employment. The bill also requires the VA to solicit, collect, and analyze feedback from program participants and from the GI Bill School Feedback Tool and to use that feedback to evaluate and improve the program's implementation.

What it means for you#

  • If you complete a VET TEC program, your employment at 180 days after completion is what counts toward the program's reported employment rate.
  • Jobs where you are hired by the same company that provided your training, or hired by a parent or affiliate as an instructor for a similar course, will not count in the reported employment rate.
  • The VA will publish the overall employment rate and, when possible, break it down by full-time, part-time, and self-employment.
  • The VA will collect feedback from participants and the GI Bill School Feedback Tool and use that information to review how the program is run.
