Endless Mountains Heritage Area Act

Summary#

This bill would add the Endless Mountains National Heritage Area in Pennsylvania to the National Heritage Area System by amending the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act. The area would include Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties and any parts of other counties identified in a feasibility study. The Secretary of the Interior would set the exact boundaries based on that study. The Endless Mountains Heritage Region, Inc. would serve as the local coordinating entity. That local coordinating entity must submit a proposed management plan to the Secretary within 3 years of the law taking effect. The Secretary’s authority to provide assistance for this heritage area would end 15 years after enactment.

What it means for you#

If you live, work, or operate an organization in the listed counties, this bill would start a formal process to plan and coordinate heritage activities in the Endless Mountains area. A local group (Endless Mountains Heritage Region, Inc.) would lead the planning and would send a management plan to the Secretary within 3 years. Federal assistance from the Secretary for the heritage area could be available, but that authority ends 15 years after the bill becomes law.
