Saving NASA's Workforce Act

Full Title:
Saving NASA’s Workforce Act

Summary#

This bill, the Saving NASA's Workforce Act, would bar the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from carrying out any "reduction in force" actions under sections 3501–3504 and 3595 of title 5, United States Code, until Congress enacts full-year appropriations for NASA for fiscal year 2026. The bill also says this restriction is in addition to other authorities for adverse personnel actions, including chapter 75 of title 5.

What it means for you#

  • For NASA employees: the bill would pause certain types of layoffs or position eliminations labeled as reductions in force under the specified sections of title 5 until full FY2026 appropriations are enacted.
  • For other personnel actions: the bill does not remove other authorities for adverse actions; chapter 75 and other authorities remain available according to the bill text.
  • For contractors and entities outside NASA: the bill text does not mention them.
