Agricultural Management Assistance

Summary#

The bill would expand federal crop insurance education and risk management assistance. It adds language translation and support for crop insurance providers, and adds activities that may qualify for assistance, such as improving soil health, developing water sources and irrigation, planting perennial crops, integrating livestock, composting farm waste, and diversifying farm products or markets. It also changes payment limits and program funding.

What it means for you#

Farmers who qualify under the existing program could seek assistance for a wider range of conservation, production, and marketing activities. The program could also provide education and technical help to crop insurance providers, including information about whole-farm diversified risk insurance. Language translation may be provided where appropriate. The bill does not state whether any particular farmer would receive assistance.

Expenses#

The bill authorizes $20 million for each fiscal year starting in 2026, available until spent. It also changes a specified existing program funding amount from $10 million to $30 million. Assistance to a person under the program would be limited to $200,000 over five years; certain other federal payments would not count toward that limit.
