NWT Makes Film Producer Support Permanent
A permanent producer incentive and a film rebate program are supporting local productions, jobs and northern stories.
Summary
The Northwest Territories has made its Producers Incentive Program permanent. During its pilot, the program provided close to $300,000 to 19 NWT producers.
The territory also says its Film Rebate Program has supported 30 productions and generated nearly $8 in NWT spending for every $1 invested. The programs aim to support local filmmakers, grow the screen industry and help Northerners tell stories about the North.
The statement also recognizes Western Arctic Moving Pictures’ 25 years of work and the Yellowknife International Film Festival’s 20th year. The festival opened with LUMI, a feature written and directed by Yellowknife filmmaker Jen Walden and filmed in part in the NWT.
