STORMWATER Act

Full Title:
STORMWATER Act

Summary#

This bill extends and updates a program that supports university and research centers focused on stormwater control infrastructure technologies. It sets the number of centers at 5, adds a requirement that one center be located in and focused on the Great Lakes region, and moves the program's authorized time period forward so it covers fiscal years 2027 through 2031. The bill also updates the statute that authorizes funding for the program to cover those same years.

What it means for you#

If you work at or with a university, research center, or local agency involved in stormwater control, this bill would continue the federal program that supports such centers. It would fix the total number of centers at five and require one center to focus on the Great Lakes region. Communities and organizations in or near the Great Lakes region could see a clearer focus from at least one center.

Expenses#

No publicly available information on dollar amounts or specific funding levels is provided in the bill text. The bill does change the statute authorizing appropriations so the program is authorized through fiscal year 2031, but it does not specify funding totals.
