Data BRIDGE Act

Summary#

This bill directs the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to add a new layer to its National Broadband Map that shows the location of agricultural areas. The FCC must update the map within 180 days after the bill becomes law and keep the layer maintained. The FCC is required to consult with the Secretary of Agriculture, the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information, state representatives, and other stakeholders when carrying out this work. The bill defines "Commission" as the FCC and "State" to include the District of Columbia.

What it means for you#

If the bill becomes law, the public National Broadband Map will include a visible layer showing where agricultural areas are located. Government agencies, businesses, and members of the public will be able to view that layer as part of the FCC's map. The bill sets a 180-day deadline for the FCC to add and begin maintaining the layer and requires the FCC to consult specific federal and state officials and other stakeholders while doing so.
