AI for Secure Networks Act

Summary#

This bill directs the Secretary of Commerce, acting through the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information, to conduct a study on how artificial intelligence (AI) affects the security of telecommunications networks. The study must analyze how AI can improve networks, including real-time threat and malware detection, zero trust security solutions, increased resiliency and interoperability, improved energy efficiency, and integrated sensing and communications. It must also examine AI use with Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) technology, virtualized security technology, firewalls and network segmentation, and any risks AI may pose to network security. The Secretary must consult with the Federal Communications Commission and industry stakeholders, provide an opportunity for public comment, and submit a report to the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee within one year of enactment. The report may include legislative recommendations.
