Coast Guard Infrastructure Inclusion Act

Summary#

This bill amends the Defense Community Infrastructure Program in title 10 of the United States Code to include Coast Guard installations. It requires the Secretary of Defense to seek the concurrence of the Commandant of the Coast Guard when assessing and prioritizing community infrastructure projects tied to Coast Guard installations. It also says grants under the program may be used to support any Coast Guard mission authorized under section 888 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (6 U.S.C. 468). Finally, it clarifies that for the program the term "military installation" includes Coast Guard installations under the Department of Homeland Security.

What it means for you#

Communities near Coast Guard bases could be eligible for the same community infrastructure grants that support military installations. The Department of Defense will work with the Commandant of the Coast Guard when choosing and ranking projects that benefit Coast Guard installations. Grants may fund projects that support Coast Guard missions authorized by the cited Homeland Security Act section.
