Water Power Research and Development Reauthorization Act

Summary#

This bill would change and extend an existing federal program that supports research, development, demonstration, and commercial work on water power technologies. It updates parts of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 to add new research goals and project types, expand who can take part, and increase authorized funding. Key changes in the bill include support for: manufacturing of composite and additively manufactured marine-energy parts; cybersecurity for hydropower; studies to streamline hydropower licensing; methods to assess and improve environmental impacts and hydrology effects; testing and validation systems for hydropower and pumped storage; invasive species mitigation for equipment; and workforce development (including Tribal programs and student research).
