Postal Contracting Financial Accountability Act

Summary#

The bill would let a contractor choose to keep operating a contract postal unit after the Postal Service decides to end or not renew its agreement. The option is available only if the decision is not mainly or entirely because the contractor breached the agreement, no replacement agreement has been made for that unit, and the contractor gives notice and accepts amended terms. The agreement would usually continue without requiring Postal Service payments. The Postmaster General could decide that payments are appropriate and set their terms. The agreement could end if the contractor breaches it, ends it, or permanently stops operating the unit.

What it means for you#

The bill could allow some contract postal units to keep operating after the Postal Service decides to end or not renew their agreements. It does not require contractors to continue operating a unit.

Expenses#

The bill does not provide an overall cost estimate. In general, continued operation would not require Postal Service payments, but the Postmaster General could decide that payments are appropriate and set their terms.
